Director of Communications
PURPOSE
The Director of Communications controls the flow of information between the organization and the community as well as within the organization. Developing and implementing the branding and image of the Crisis Center across all areas of communication.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
QUALIFICATIONS
· A bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, or public relations OR five years in a related field is preferred.
· A minimum of 2 years of work experience in marketing, communications, and/or public relations with demonstrated success is required.
· Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the design and execution of marketing (including social media), communications, and public relations.
· Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, developing presentations, and coordinating with media.
· Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
· Computer literacy in word processing and database management
· Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams.
· Strong oral and written communication skills.
· Strong public speaking skills to represent the organization and its mission effectively.
· Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
· Experience with Canva and WordPress is a plus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of a comprehensive public relations, marketing, and communications program that will enhance the Crisis Center’s image and position within the public.
· Facilitate internal and external communications for the organization.
· Ensure articulation and consistency of The Crisis Center’s desired image and messaging.
· Responsible for editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of all Crisis Center publications. This includes print and media material as well as presentation material.
· Act as The Crisis Center representative with the media and coordinate staff and media interactions.
· Leads projects as assigned, such as cause-related marketing and special events.
· Develop short and long-term plans and budgets for the public relations/marketing/communications program and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence, and evaluate performance.
· Recommend short and long-term goals and objectives for public relations to the Board and Executive Director.
· Develop, implement, and monitor systems and procedures to operate the public relations/marketing/communications function smoothly.
· Keep informed of public relations, marketing, and communications developments in not-for-profit management.
· Collaborates with Web and Graphic Designers for updates and project needs.
· Review website weekly and make edits and design reviews as needed.
· Send monthly internal and community newsletters.
· Regular posting on social media. Monitor social media platforms and respond to comments as appropriate.
· Assist staff with developing community outreach presentations to ensure that branding and design are in alignment with the center’s image and mission.
· Plan and implement community outreach efforts to recruit volunteers and promote the work of the Crisis Center.
· Coordinate Crisis Center presence at outreach events and ensure adequate staffing and materials are present.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to remain in a stationary position for 90 percent of the time while operating their computer and performing office work. The individual needs to occasionally move about inside the office. They regularly operate computers and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and computer printer. They must be able to exchange accurate information with customers and others in the office while interacting. The employee must occasionally move up to 15 pounds. The individual must be capable of reviewing their work for errors and make adjustments as necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. The individual frequently works in a controlled climate.
